Rescued as a young cub Wojtek was adopted by the 2nd Transport Company and became one of the men. He took to the soldier life well and fit right in. He shared showers and provisions and performed tasks during battle. When the Polish II Corps finally arrived in Egypt they were reorganized to fight alongside the British. Among the changes the 2nd Transport Company became the 22nd Artillery Company and they were assigned to join the Italian campaign, including Wojtek.
