While smoky season choked the air in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and all my farang friends had evacuated, I stubbornly hunkered down inside the Chiang Mai Community House I had built, performing rituals, begging the gods to bring rain, praying for my own sanity while the toxic air seeped into my bloodstream. This song wrote itself first as a poem on my computer screen as I began facing the reality that I would have to change my life in a drastic way if I was to carry on... A year later, in 2019, after deconstructing the community house and endeavoring to transition my community programs online, I sat down began to sing this song, recording it along with some musical keys and beats that I tapped out on the small midi keyboard I had with me at the time. Now deep into 2020, isolated in The Republic of Georgia, I have time to wait until the world can handle us coming out into each others’ spaces again. So I make art and music in my leisure time. Just a day ago, I discovered Nina Paley ~ the ar
