Treak Cliff Cavern: The Best Show Cave In The Area - Castleton, Peak District, Derbyshire, England

Treak Cliff Cavern is a show cave near Castleton in Derbyshire, England and it’s one of only two sites where the ornamental mineral Blue John is still excavated. Treak Cliff Cavern is famous throughout the world for its unique and large deposits of Blue John stone, housing some of the most beautiful cave formations found in the UK and the finest stalactites in the Peak District. The Cavern is within the Castleton Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and the Peak District National Park of England. Mined for the rare Blue John ornamental mineral for over 300 years, the Visitor Attraction is a family run business, operated by the Harrison family, continuously since 1945. Our crafts people continue the traditions of mining, processing, manufacturing and retailing Blue John Stone jewellery, mineral specimens and ornaments in our workshops on site.
