Alma Rose Rhodochrosite Specimen - Sweet Home Mine, CO - Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks & Minerals

The Alma Rose is one of the Great Three Rhodochrosites to ever come out of the Sweet Home Mine in Alma County, Colorado. Discovered by Bryan Lees and The Collector’s Edge, it was originally sold to Richard and Helen Rice and has remained a part of the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks & Minerals ever since it was originally sold. This is a stunning piece of five MAJOR Rhodochrosite rhombohedrons sitting on a black Tetrahedrite matrix covered in Quartz needles. Interspersed among the Quartz are islands of yellow Calcite and purple Fluorite. These same Calcites and Fluorites also cover the faces of some of the brilliant red Rhodochrosites. There are many photographs of this pieces that can be found online but they do this masterpiece little justice.
