DNS of spatially developing turbulent planar jets

Video shows vorticity contours from a DNS of spatially developing turbulent planar jets, used to study the effect of initial conditions on the large-scale structures and Turbulent/Nonturbulent characteristics in jets. The DNS solver is a parallel version of a highly accurate code that uses mixed pseudospectral/ Compact schemes for spatial discretization, and a 3rd order Runge-Kutta scheme for temporal advancement. Two different initial conditions were used in the DNS: (left video) synthetic noise and (right video) data from a previous DNS of a channel flow.
