Israel begins ground invasion of Lebanon with “limited“ raids

Israeli ground troops supported by artillery entered southern Lebanon overnight, in what the military described as a “limited, localised” operation against Hezbollah. The offensive began, despite international efforts to prevent it, hours before an official Israeli statement at about 2am local time confirmed that its forces were carrying out “targeted ground raids” in villages close to the Israeli border. The Israeli operation, codenamed “Northern Arrows”, was announced after heavy shelling was reported from Israel into southern Lebanon.
