In this video I’ve build a magnetic knife block out of some Valcromat scraps I had laying around and covered the magnets with beautiful birdseye maple veneer. This material combination and the used angles give this piece a modern and sleek look that fits in many many kitchens. Please ask your wife if I should post this on Pinterest. My shirt changes color between shots because I taped it on different days. I have also added more magnets between shots as the inset magnets had a greater distance to the knife as when they were sandwitching the veneer in my tests. You don’t have to mix your own shellac, but you need to check what additives are in readily bought products. Foodsafe finishes are also tung oil, boiled lindseed oil, walnut oil and beeswax. Tung oil is the hardest of them but expensive. I hat the best results with walnut oil because it hardens the quickest without additives. There are no plans available.
