Clip from the first of four televised debates between Kennedy and Nixon, and the first presidential debate to be televised ever. This debate was seen as a turning point for the campaign. Nixon’s sickly appearance (he was recovering from an infection) and his refusal to wear makeup made him appear weak to American viewers, especially next to the younger, tanned Kennedy.
