Painted Indians (1930)

No title. One frame intertitle at beginning almost unreadable but the words Amazon and Piraha, Brazil are visible. L/S of a primitive village on the banks of a river. C/U of a tribesman - he has a feathered head-dress and painted chest and face. Camera tilts down to show his painted chest and loin cloth. Camera tilts up again and the man lifts his spear. “Like his white brothers, he must prove he can bring home the turkey.“ M/S of the man walking towards the camera carrying a large dead bird, he hands it to another man. “If the bride’s old man pulls out two feathers it means he’s tickled to death to give his daughter away — to keep the turkey.“ The two men stand side by side and the elder man pulls out two feathers. “The 12 year old bride hasn’t seen “her choice“ as yet, but hopes for the best, so she dolls up in her wedding gown —“ C/U of the bride to be who looks very unhappy and nervous. “ — And the ceremony is over after the ushers chase away the evil spirits by playing harmonicas, shaking
