Bosnia’s Last Nomadic Village: Hike to Lukomir | Bosnia Travel Guide

The remote Belasica mountains in Bosnia & Herzegovina are known for their rugged terrain and stunning natural beauty. But these mountains are also home to some little-known villages where inhabitants still live nomadic lives. Today, we take a 16 km hike through this breathtaking landscape to explore the nature of the Bosnian mountains, investigate the villages of Umoljani and Lukomir, and discover what it’s like to be living in the 21st century as a pastoral nomad. Lukomir is one of Europe’s most remote nomadic villages, and here we will meet locals, enjoy Bosnian coffee (the first coffee I ever finished!) and devour a delicious home-made lunch, whilst learning about how they survive and live.
