The Earth is going to die... unless we do something about it. In about 1 billion years, the sun will start to swell up and eventually cook every last life form on Earth. Luckily, we have ways of expanding our orbit and keeping our planet alive for billions of years more. Some have proposed sending large asteroids whizzing by Earth to push out the orbit. But the safer, more interesting way would be to build a conductive space elevator on the far side of the moon.
