The Cassandra Complex ’Death & Sex’ - the complete reimagining of an industrial post-punk classic
Riding high on the back of multiple successful singles and albums, in 1993 legendary post-punk band The Cassandra Complex released their Sex & Death album to wide acclaim across Europe. However, due to legal complications, this album was never released in the USA, and still has never been made available there. On regaining the USA rights, band mastermind Rodney Orpheus sat down to remaster the album, but soon decided to simply re-record it from scratch using modern technology, and do a worldwide release of an entirely new album featuring the original songs - Death & Sex.
For the re-recording Orpheus gathered together original guitarist Andy Booth, plus USA-based guitarist Chris Haskett (Rollins Band, David Bowie), cellist Mera Roberts (Faith & the Muse, Black Tape for a Blue Girl), and keyboardist Brent Heinze.
Death & Sex features The Cassandra Complex’s classic signature sounds of powerful drum machines, hammering synth basslines, and huge distorted guitars, but this album takes it to a new level of sonic power, completely reinventing the band’s sound for the 21st century. Orpheus’ unique voice sounds better than ever, and the band members create music of stunning energy and virtuosity, from the hard driving cyberpunk of Mouth of Heaven and Kneel to the Boss, to the warped dancefloor of Voices or Give Me What I Need, and the oozing sexuality of Satisfy Me and Realm of the Senseless. This is not just a retread of a 30 year old album - it’s a totally new record with a totally new level of emotional intensity.
The band’s previous album The Plague was widely acclaimed and spent 8 weeks in the German Alternative Chart; early indications are that this album will achieve even greater levels of critical and fan acclaim - the Reflections of Darkness website already calls it “...an awesome and surprising new sound!”
The album will be supported by a world tour across 16 countries throughout 2024.
