Fire crews battle 1,000 acre blaze in Japatul Valley in East San Diego County on Saturday

Firefighters continued battling a fast-moving vegetation fire Sunday that had burned about 1,500 acres by Saturday night in the Japatul Valley area near Alpine. The fire began about 3 Saturday off Spirit Trail and Japatul Road and was described early by Cal Fire officials as burning at a dangerous rate of spread and a medium threat to structures. MORE:
