UN Ambassadors From China, Qatar, Jordan, Ireland, Spain, Bolivia and other nations were among those who spoke at a reconvened emergency special session of the UN General Assembly on Dec. 15, soon after the emergency special session of the General Assembly on Dec. 12 to call for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas. 153 countries voted to pass a resolution “demanding immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, as well as immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.” Ten countries, including Israel and the United States, voted against and 23 abstained. The conflict in Gaza was sparked by an attack on Israel on Oct. 7 when Hamas militants attacked Israeli villages.
