Interview with the Legionary PART 3: Upon hearing of Legionary Dec. Helvidius Rufus’ story about Emperor Trajan, he asks if Rufus would be interesting in talking about it in front of other people. Their conversation is suddenly interrupted, however, by a local with a chip on his shoudler. The story then takes a turn for the unexpected. 💬 Subtitles available in English & Latin! 🇬🇧 🦅 🇮🇹 LEGIONARIVS Written & Performed by Luke Amadeus Ranieri. Directed by Irene La Preziosa @irenelapreziosa The ancient Germanic character is speaking Gothic (and Latin with a reconstructed Gothic accent according to ancient Gothic’s phonotactic limitations), Gothic being the oldest attested and complete Germanic language from antiquity. His lines were taken from words and phrases in the Gothic Bible and rearranged for the dialogue in the video. He speaks in the reconstruction Gothic pronunciation of the time of Ulfilas. While Gothic like this would have be heard readily more to the east and a couple centuries later than these LEGIONARIVS scenes (which take place in the early 2nd century AD in Germania Inferior), its existence a bit earlier is plausible, it is at least representative of an ancient Germanic voice, which is what the scene called for. #Latin #Legionary #RomanSoldier 🦂 Support my work on Patreon: 📚 Luke Ranieri Audiobooks: 🤠 Take my course LATIN UNCOVERED on StoryLearning, including my original Latin adventure novella “Vir Petasātus“ 🦂 Sign up for my Latin Pronunciation & Conversation series on Patreon: Support the channel by joining it: 🏛 Ancient Greek in Action · Free Greek Lessons: 👨‍🏫 My Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata playlist · Free Latin Lessons: ☕️ Support my work with PayPal: 📚 Luke Ranieri Audiobooks: 🌅 ScorpioMartianus apud Instagram: 🦁 Legio XIII Latin Language Podcast: 🎙 Hundres of hours of Latin & Greek audio: 👕 Merch: 🦂 🦅 00:00 In Germania Inferior... 03:10 Outtake
