President Urges Congress to Pass Ukraine Aid

President Biden urged Congress on Wednesday to approve his national security supplemental request, which includes billions of dollars for Ukraine, Israel and the Indo-Pacific. “This cannot wait. Congress needs to pass supplemental funding for Ukraine before they break for the holiday recess. It’s as simple as that. Frankly, I think it’s stunning that we’ve gotten to this point in the first place,“ he said. “We can’t let Putin win.“ His remarks came hours ahead of a Senate procedural vote on the aid package, which is expected to fail due to Republicans’ insistence that it be tied to “meaningful changes“ to the U.S. southern border. The president said he is willing to make “significant compromises“ on border policy, but said whatever proposal is attached needs to be bipartisan. “We need to fix the broken border system — it is broken,“ he said. “This has to be a negotiation. Republicans think they can get everything they want without any bipartisan compromise. That’s not the answer.“ Download the FREE C-SPAN Now App. Discover the C-SPAN Video Library at Explore C-SPAN’s Free Educational Resources at C-SPAN: Created by Cable in 1979.
