Russia’s bombardment of French mercs in Kharkov further proves France’s active role in proxy war
Russia’s Defense Ministry announced Wednesday that it had carried out a precision strike targeting a building hosting dozens of French mercenaries, killing over 60 and injuring over 20 others.
Last October, in an exclusive report, Sputnik revealed that a French military intelligence agent had been in contact with foreign ‘soldiers of fortune’ operating in Ukraine some two years before the escalation of the Donbass crisis into a full-scale proxy war involving Russia.
▪️Documents obtained by Sputnik showed that French Directorate of Military Intelligence and Directorate-General for External Security officer Arnaud Helly was on the ground in Kiev between January and May of 2020 for a mystery mission, renting living quarters some 800 meters walking distance from a popular merc hot spot.
▪️ The spy, who was also known to have taken part in missions in Russia, Armenia and Georgia, received the National Order of Merit for his services in October 2020, and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in December 2021.
France has played a largely hidden but crucial role in pumping Kiev up with arms and preparing it for the 2022 crisis, with former French president Francois Hollande admitting in December of that year that the 2015 Minsk peace deal meant to end the civil war in the Donbass was a ruse designed to by Kiev time to rearm. France sent Ukraine some €1.6 billion worth of weapons assistance between 2014 and 2020 alone.
