I wanted to end with a bang, make one last grand hurrah to wrap up the album... and now the shortest song on the record became the longest one, lol. This track represents the sin of Guilt, and is a dark ballad with a really haunting atmosphere. Tonally it’s way different from the rest of the album, but given how it’s almost at the end, it’s a good way to transition between the more upbeat songs from before and the bittersweet closer, Glass Slipper. Since the original song is so brief, I didn’t really know what direction I wanted to take this. Eventually, I found a structure that seemed to work. It’s something I call the “Free Bird Formula“, where the first half is soft and somber and the second is just a no-holds-barred aggressive instrumental section.
