NATO Aircraft Carriers Enter Eastern Mediterranean and Deploy all F-18 Hornet NATO has deployed an aircraft carrier and its supporting ships to the eastern Mediterranean to strengthen the US posture in the region. The aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford and its support ships arrived in the eastern Mediterranean early last week. The carrier, which has a nuclear reactor, can accommodate more than 75 military aircraft, including fighters such as the F-18 Super Hornet jet and the E-2 Hawkeye which can carry more than 60 aircraft, including F/A-18 fighter jets.
