Mad Elaine - Ian Gillan Band (promotional video 1978)

The final Ian Gillan Band studio album Scarabus was recorded at Kingsway in the summer of 1977 and issued that October. Mad Elaine was chosen as the lead (and only UK) single in early 1978 and Island Records arranged for this promotional video to be filmed in London on stage. I don’t recall it ever being shown on British TV but it was aired in France where this version is from. The quality is not the best but it does give a good idea of how the band looked and sounded at the time. Personnel are Ian Gillan, Colin Towns on keyboards, John Gustafson on bass and Mark Nauseef on drums (though the camera seems mostly to have missed him!). The single had little promotion, lacked a picture sleeve or any real incentive to buy as it was on the album which everyone had already got.
