1978 Pontiac Trans Am HARDTOP in MARTINIQUE BLUE | 78 Bandit | Daily Racer

In today’s episode of Daily Racer we meet Fred Giffels III and his 1978 Pontiac Trans Am hardtop in Martinique Blue. What’s special about this 78 Bandit is that it used to be a hillclimb race car racing at Chimney Rock HillClimb in the 90s which Fred attended as a kid with his father. So Fred definitely watched his car race years before buying it, which he only realized from filming with Daily Racer for this feature! We get a little history of the Trans Am today learning that the name comes from the Trans American Challenge and was licensed by the SCCA [ Sports Car Club of America ]. The downside, Pontiac never made a Trans Am with a small enough engine to race in the Trans American Challenge leaving GM to their Chevrolet Camaro Counterpart to take over the race series.
