Vangelis - Sauvage et Beau (Opening Theme)

This is the opening theme from the 1984 wildlife documentary, “Sauvage et Beau“, composed and performed by Vangelis. Vangelis produced several fruitful collaborations with French documentary filmmaker Frédéric Rossif, composing and performing the soundtracks to almost twenty of Rossif’s films, including “Sauvage et Beau.“ Unfortunately, most of them are now out-of-print and only three (“L’Apocalypse des Animaux“, “La Fête Sauvage“, and “Opéra Sauvage“) were given an official soundtrack release. However, the theme from “Sauvage et Beau“ was included on the composer’s 1996 compilation album, “Portraits“. The full list of Vangelis-scored Rossif documentaries consists of, in chronological order: “L’Apocalypse des Animaux“ “Georges Mathieu Ou La Fureur D’Etre“ (which at one point features an improvised performance by Vangelis) “Au Pays Des Visages“ (on photographer Gisele Freund) “Georges Braque Ou Le Temp Different“ “La Fête Sauvage “ “Opera Sauvage“ “Pablo Picasso Peintre“ “Sauvage et Beau“ “Splendeur Sauvage“ “Pasteur Le Siecle“ “De Nuremberg A Nuremberg“ “Morandi“ “Les Animaux De Frederic Rossif“ “Beaute Sauvage“ “Les Sentinelles Oubliées“ The video itself consists of some photos taken of the different planets in the Solar System and their surfaces (that is, on the planets that have surfaces) combined with some footage from an educational video created by the Maryland Department of Education. Oh, in case you’re wondering, I still count Pluto as a planet (but not Eris, despite it being larger than Pluto.) Also, the photo of Mars is the same one that appeared in my video featuring the opening theme from “Missing.“
