Sky glows red as volcano erupts on Galapagos Islands

A volcano on Fernandina Island, the third largest in the Galapagos, began a new eruption with no risk to people, the Geophysical Institute of Ecuador reported on Sunday. A report from the agency published on the social network X, formerly Twitter, indicated that a “thermal anomaly and a gas emission“ were detected near midnight at the 1,476-meter La Cumbre volcano, which registered eruptive activity in 2018 and 2020.
