Queen Elizabeth II Opens the Kennet and Avon Canal (1990) | Royal History

On this day in 1990, Queen Elizabeth II travelled to Caen Hill Locks in Wiltshire to open the Kennet and Avon Canal. Arriving to great fanfare, the Queen boarded a barge to take part in an unusual alternative to the cutting of the ribbon, before disembarking to unveil a plaque at Lock 43, naming it the Queen Elizabeth II Lock. #QueenElizabethII #Queen #ElizabethII #QueenElizabeth #RoyalFamily #RoyalHistory #KennetAndAvonCanal #CaenHill #Wiltshire #England #CanalBoat #Canal To search the ITN Archive collection on Getty Images, follow the link below: 🎥 Subscribe to our YouTube channel (tap the bell icon and stay up to date with all the latest ITN Archive videos!) - @ITNArchive 🎥 Follow us on Twitter - 🎥 Like us on Facebook - 🎥 Check out our TikTok - @itnarchive1955
