They follow the order of the general mobilization to enlist in 1971 and finally join battle in Quang Tri citadel in 1972. In this place, Thanh, Thang, Long sacrifice; ony Hoang fortunately survives the battle and returnes to Hanoi. The film is told from memories of Hoang when he pays a visit to the old battlefield.
