Gestures of musical instruments like Flute/Venu, Cymbals/Manjira, Drums/Mardala, the stringed instrument, Veena are inherent features of non-narrative dance motifs and movements in all dance forms. In Odissi they occupy a special place because of the prominent postures of musicians in the Konark Sun Temple. This excerpt is a rhythmic crescendo at the end of a non-narrative dance called Sthayi, choreographed by Guru Pankaj Charan Das. For this series I have made some changes to the original.
