Tango id - Contemporary Argentine Tango Performance Art by Michael Finkel and Iris Ashkenazy

Argentine Tango is a mysterious dance. Filled with many little nuances it invokes the marvel and wonder in all of us. In our development of the dance, different emotions and thoughts come flooding to our conscious and unconscious. During the social dances we are confronted with ourselves in a way we never thought. ’Tango id’ is a performance piece created by Michael Finkel and Iris Ashkenazy about what happens in the shadows of the Argentine Tango. The term, ‘id’, was coined by Sigmund Freud - which describes the primitive, instinctual part of the mind. “Id’ is also short for identity. Playing on the concepts of our inner motivations and how we identify with them is the idea of the performance. In the social place of dancing tango, the milonga, much non-verbal communication arises and yet, is often ignored. What would happen if we danced them? If we gave them the center stage?
