Live: Russian activist Alexei Navalny to be awarded Sakharov Prize 2021

Members of Parliament have awarded Russian opposition politician and anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny the European Parliament’s 2021 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. The prize is the EU’s highest tribute to human rights defenders. It recognises people, groups and organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to protecting freedom of thought. As Navalny is currently being imprisoned in Russia, his daughter will receive the prize on his behalf from Parliament President David Sassoli. Join us for the award ceremony.
