F-A-E Sonata - a work dedicated to the violinist Joseph Joachim and based on the notes F-A-E, which represent his personal motto: Frei aber einsam (“free but lonely“). The first movement was composed by Albert Dietrich, the second and fourth by Robert Schumann, and the third by the young Johannes Brahms.
