I challenged myself to design a wooden kayak. This is a ’proof’ model for my custom stitch & glue kayak so that I could test the geometry and think through the fabrication. I have always felt drawn to cedar strip canoes and kayaks but they tend to be a bit busy visually and can be fairly complicated to get right. Stitch and glue kayaks, on the other hand, can look too simplistic, but they fairly straightforward to build. I hoped to balance the ease of fabrication with the beauty of cedar strip construction.
