Musume Dojoji is a Kabuki play, telling the story of a young woman whose pangs of love turns her into a vengeful serpent spirit. Kabuki is the best known classical Japanese theatre genre, it combines music, drama, and dance. The first Kabuki performance of Musume Dojoji, an adaptation of a Noh play, debuted in Edo (Tokyo), 1744.
