Orchid Nursery (1967)

Haywards Heath, West Sussex. Several shots show exotic orchid blooms in a glasshouse at Charlesworths’ Nursery. Leslie Nye pollinates two orchids. Eric Bowers snips a pod from an orchid plant, scrapes some seeds onto a glass slide and looks at them under a microscope, then puts them into a sterilised glass flask as part of the seed sewing propagation. The flask is placed on a rack in a greenhouse with numerous others; some other flasks have tiny green star-shaped plantlets growing in them. Rows of pots with small orchid plants are seen in the greenhouse; a man checks a thermometer; several more orchid blooms are seen. Orchids are packed into boxes lined with tissue paper. Note: on file are cameraman’s notes and a printed leaflet giving details of how to get to the Nursery. Cuts exist - see separate record. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
