How to Play Quarterback: Improving Throwing Technique Without a Ball Drill 2 - Step, Hips, Throw

Coach Bill Renner uses four drills with a towel to teach and coach quarterback throwing techniques. This is Drill 2 - Step, Hips, Throw. The quarterback starts in a position where he has just separated his hsnds off the ball only with a slight adjustment to his throwing arm. His throwing arm will start back in external rotation with a rolled up towel in his hand which is doubled over. On the command “step“, the quarterback will take a 6“ step forward, turning his front foot toe out to the target and transfering his weight to his front foot. On the command “hips“, the quarterback turns his hips the last 1/4 turn to the target which turns his elbow to the extension ready position as well. On the command “throw“ the quarterback stays perfectly stable and extend his elbow and throws the towel as if he is throwing the football. Do 2 sets of 5 reps. This is a live on-the-field video review session with Joe Butts that Coach Renner does after each drill in his training sessio
