Launching Of The SS Scythia AKA Luxury Liner Launched (1920)

Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. Intertitle: “LUXURY LINER LAUNCHED. S. S. ’Scythia’, giant new Cunarder, the largest liner built since armistice, successfully launched at Vicker’s Yard“. Various low angle shots of the bow of the liner, lots of people look down over the railings. Around the base of boat is an enormous striped canvas launching platform affair with a giant banner reading - ’ SCYTHIA CUNARD CO’. Fantastic low angle shot of the liner being launched - the propellors at the stern and the rudder are the first bits to come into shot, in the background fishing boats can be seen. The boat slowly glides past the camera into the sea, as the propellors hit the water they start to spin, ropes drop away from the side with a splash - the whole thing is very spectacular.
