Rooing a Shetland sheep

Tori is rooing a Shetland ewe. Rooing is a process by which you pull a fleece off of a purebred Shetland sheep. Rooing is done in late winter to late spring. It is done when the old fleece has a break or weak point and the new fleece is growing in. This is a primitive Shetland breed characteristic and has been done for hundreds of years this way. Breed type Shetland wool that is fine and crimpy, displays this characteristic the best.
