GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Kings () | Celebrate 68

February 18th, 2024 is a day for the history book as the Pittsburgh Penguins retired Jaromir Jagr’s number. Jagr was drafted by Pittsburgh in the 1990 draft 5th overall by Pittsburgh and went on to have one of the best careers in NHL history. Jagr played in 1,733 games while scoring 766 goals and collecting 1,155 assists. After 27 seasons on 9 different teams in the NHL, Jagr’s 68 was retired into the rafters in Pittsburgh next to 66 and 21. After Jagr took warm-ups in Pittsburgh, the puck was dropped. The Penguins hosted the Kings. Late in the 1st, the Penguins won the faceoff on the powerplay back to Erik Karlsson on the point. Sidney Crosby opened up and scored on a one-timer to take the lead. That was the lone goal for the first two periods despite both teams generating chances and having power-play opportunities.
