Papua New Guinea Landslide | Rescue Operations Delayed Due To Remote Location | G18V
Over 2000 people are feared to be buried alive after the devastating landslide in Yambali Village of Papua New Guinea. It has been over 72 hours since the disaster hit the village. However, people are still seen using spades, sticks and their bare hands to move the debris out of the way and find any survivors. The remote location has delayed the arrival of heavy equipment and aid, while nearby tribal warfare has necessitated that aid workers travel in convoys escorted by soldiers. Each night, they must return to the provincial capital, approximately 60 km (37 miles) away. With communication difficulties and tribal conflicts hampering relief efforts, the unfolding tragedy remains complex and fluid.
