Chechnya - Russian Servicemen Captured

Russia confirmed on Monday that 47 of its servicemen had been captured when its troops entered the rebel region of Chechnya on Sunday (11/12). Volunteers ready to defend Chechnya from advancing Russian troops took up positions in the countryside today some five kilometres west of Grozny. In the capital itself, government troops loyal to the president Dzhokhar Dudayev assumed defensive positions on the city rooftops armed with machine guns and ready to fight an expected russian attack.
