Man shoots partners son on camera, then shoots himself

In newly-released footage from the disturbing case of Jeffrey Scott West, a 68-year-old resident of the ironically-named Friendsville, Tennessee, shot and injured his partner’s son, 24-year-old Kyle W Spitze, during a heated argument. The video, filmed by Spitze himself, shows West arguing, shouting and pointing a gun at Spitze and threatening to shoot him, while Spitze’s mother Melanie pleads with him to stop. ‘Point that gun at me again,’ said Spitze. West obliged, and pulled the trigger. Leaving a visible trail of blood, Spitze retreated outside to the safety of the yard. For West, however, the violence was just beginning. Police arrived at the scene shortly after, and found Spitze and his mother outside the house, the former with a gunshot wound to his ear. A tense standoff ensued as West barricaded himself inside the house, while negotiators and a SWAT team waited outside. Two hours later, West was dead by his own hand, and a small town was left wondering what on Earth had just happened.
