MIKE MENTZER: HEAVY DUTY “HIT” WORKOUT(Redux)

In this video, Mike Mentzer puts bodybuilder Markus Reinhardt through three Heavy Duty workouts using the principles that Mike advocated in his book “Heavy Duty II: Mind and Body.” Filmed the day before his death, this video represents Mike’s final thoughts on the important points of high-intensity training. I always thought the video had been rushed through editing in order to take advantage of the publicity that resulted from Mike’s passing. It had loud synthesizer music blaring all the way through it, flubs were left in, and no sense of time elapsing in between the workouts was attempted. While I would sorely have liked to have had the original audio and video stems, sadly, I do not. I have attempted to clean up the audio where possible, but it is what it is. Nevertheless, looking over Mike’s script notes for the video (which he sent me a day or so prior to filming and which were incomplete at the time of his passing), I have reassembled the video to bring it more in line with what Mike had envisioned. I recall that he was very excited about having a project to involve himself in deeply, and, after Mike passed, I told the producer of the video to take his time and do a proper job, but my counsel was ignored. While the original video could’ve been so much better, the truth is so could this one. Nevertheless, it is part of the historical record and legacy that Mike left us regarding the application of high-intensity training principles and is presented here in this spirit.
