Water Sprites (1933)

Possibly a very early Butlin’s holiday camp in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. Full titles read: “WATER SPRITES, Filmed at Clacton.“ L/S’s of young women wearing quite skimpy costumes dancing on the edge of a an open air swimming pool. Crowds of people watch the entertainment from a large stand in the background. Good C/U of a young women watching. M/S’s and L/S’s of young men driving small boats (both the boats have ’Butlin’s’ printed on the side of the hull) around the pool. Two men stand on the front of the boats and try to push each other into the water with large poles. Intertitle reads: “If you want a ’warm-up’ - try this said Wally Dakin, Ex. Midd. Champ Eastern Counties, and Ex-Seamen Harvey, Imperial Champion.“ Several shots of the two men boxing in front of a small crowd of people. They shake hands and smile at each other when the contest is over. Various (including slow motion footage) shots of diver performing various somersaults and back flips in a high diving demonstration.
