LIVE | Israel says no exception to Gaza siege unless hostages freed | Gaza Israel War Live Israeli jets continued to pound Gaza on Wednesday (October 11) at night, as tanks massed around the densely populated Palestinian enclave. Video filmed at night showed Israel’s Iron Dome missile defence system intercept rockets fired from Gaza on Wednesday evening. Israeli air strikes continued into Thursday (October 12) morning, as thousands were forced to flee their homes leaving streets and shops virtually empty. Residents in Holon were heard singing the Israeli national anthem from an apartment building balcony on Wednesday night, with video shared on social media of several lit windows in apartment buildings as the anthem is played loudly and people sing along. Israeli families gathered in Jerusalem’s Mount Herzl cemetery on Thursday to attend the funerals of soldiers who lost their lives in the Israel-Hamas conflict. Family members wept and prayed during the funerals at Israel’s main military cemetery. The Israel Defence Force on Thursday released footage of targets said to be owned by Hamas being hit by missiles. Palestinian children and families sought shelter outside the Al Shifa hospital in Gaza City. Dozens of people were seen gathered in the courtyard of the hospital in makeshift shelters, hoping to avoid being targeted by airstrikes. Volunteers searched through the rubble in Khan Younis following Israeli air strikes, pulling bodies out of the debris where possible on Thursday. Residents of the al-Shati refugee camp in Gaza also searched through the rubble of targeted buildings. Eyewitness footage shot on Wednesday in a Gaza neighbourhood showed partially collapsed buildings and debris on the road. Residents and emergency personnel were seen gathering around a damaged building in Sheikh Radwan, an eastern neighbourhood in the coastal enclave. Drone footage showed abandoned streets, stacks of rubble across large swathes of Gaza on Thursday. Many buildings were either flattened or badly damaged in one neighbourhood, with fading grey smoke still seen rising from the rubble. Israeli troops, tanks and vehicles were deployed and on standby at the country’s border with Lebanon, on Thursday, a day after Israeli shelling hit southern Lebanese towns in response to a fresh rocket attack by Iran-backed Hezbollah. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu forged an emergency government on Wednesday to direct war against Hamas, calling the militant group a “a cruel enemy, worse than ISIS.” In a meeting with a roundtable of Jewish leaders at the White House on Wednesday, the Biden administration’s message to Iran was unequivocal: Exercise caution.
