Israelis Call on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Step Down

Residents on the streets of Tel Aviv are calling for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to step down. Netanyahu has already been facing backlash domestically in recent months prior to the outbreak of violence this past week that has seen hundreds of Israelis and Palestinians killed. This past summer, thousands of protesters marched into Jerusalem to protest the Netanyahu government’s plan for potential judicial overhaul, which would have stripped Israel’s Supreme Court of the ability to block government decisions that it deemed unreasonable. Others are frustrated at Netanyahu’s decision earlier this year to advance the planning and promotion of more than 4,000 settlement units in the occupied West Bank. Per Reuters, most countries deem the building of settlements on this land illegal under international law, and warned that the move would risk escalating tensions between Israel and Palestine. There have also been reports this week in which Egyptian intelligence officials allege that Israel’s government had been warned about, but downplayed, the prospect of ‘something big’ happening prior to the start of Hamas’ deadly attack on October 7. Netanyahu, however, has since denied that such a warning was ever issued. Several high-profile media publications, such as the Guardian and Israel-based Haaretz, have also called on Netanyahu to resign. » Sign up for our newsletter KnowThis to get the biggest stories of the day delivered straight to your inbox: » Subscribe to NowThis: For more international news, subscribe to @NowThisNews. #Israel #Palestine #Hamas #Gaza #TelAviv #Netanyahu #News #NowThis Connect with NowThis » Like us on Facebook: » Tweet us on Twitter: » Follow us on Instagram: » Find us on Snapchat Discover: NowThis is your premier news outlet providing you with all the videos you need to stay up to date on all the latest in trending news.
