Anti-lockdown protests turn violent in Australia | DW News

An anti-lockdown protest in the Australian city of Melbourne has turned violent. Police arrested demonstrators and used pepper spray as hundreds of people took to the streets. Protesters say the COVID-19 lockdown is authoritarian - and a way to deflect criticism of a vaccination program that has fallen far behind those of other countries. Frustration is also mounting in Sydney. Despite being pretty much shut down for eight weeks, the majority of Australia’s coronavirus cases are being recorded there.
