I was so surprised to have a welcoming party followed by chanting. The whole atmosphere changed at that moment. I was no longer worried with the schedule or the weather. I wanted this moment to last and not end... This airstrip was open way before my time. I fly to this village with great admiration for the peoples that built it. It’s not easy to maintain a runway like this. Earthquakes, landslides, heavy rains, animals, etc., are some of the challenges that keep the locals busy maintaining the strip. The village and its airstrip are one of the oldest in Papua. Allow me to correct that the Regency where Kegata is located is from Dogiyai and not Paniai. The people that attended the religious event were in fact from Paniai.
