The long history of Palestinians being brutalised by Israel in Ramadan

Former Member of the Israeli Knesset, Uzi Dayan is ‘a little sick and tired of Ramadan… a murderous holiday’. And he’s right. For many Palestinians observing Ramadan in occupied Palestine, it can be a murderous month. 2024: On the first day of Ramadan 67 Palestinians were killed and injured in Israeli attacks on the Gaza strip. 2022: On the last Friday of Ramadan, Israeli forces killed Yahya Adwan during an Israeli army operation. 2019: On the first day of Ramadan, Gazans buried 21 of their relatives after bombardment by Israel. 2018: Israeli snipers targeted protestors during the Great March of Return where thousands of Palestinian refugees in Gaza tried to return to the homes their families were expelled from in 1948. 2014: The 53-day long war between Gaza and Israel killed 2,200 Palestinians and injured over 10,000. 1994: Israeli settler Baruch Goldstein entered the Ibrahimi mosque in Hebron in the early morning where hundreds of muslims gathered to pray and opened fire.
