Viking Harald Hardrada (Byzantine Varangian Guard)

Harald Hardrada Sigurdsson 1030 - Harald took part in the Battle of Stiklestad to restore his brother, Olaf Haraldsson (St. Olaf) as king of Norway. Olaf was defeated by peasantry (mostly Pagan) under Thorir Hund, Kálfr Árnason loyal to King Cnut the Great. Cnut the Great unified England, Norway and Denmark under the Viking rule. The Battle ended with the defeat. Olaf Haraldsson was killed, while youg Harald was wounded and forced to seek asylum in the safety of his relatives in Kiev (Garðaríki) ruled by Yaorslav the wise of Viking Rurik Dynasty (Hrøríkʀ). 1031 - Harald took part in Rus’ campaign invading Duchy of Poland to overthrow Duke Mieszko II. Mieszko II still busy battling Franks in the west and Pagan rebllion inhis territory unable repel the Rus’ invasion. Yaroslav support succeeded installing Bezprym as Duke of Poland.
