‘We’re kidding ourselves’: Australian Navy capability in a ‘pathetic state’

The Australian’s Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan has slammed the Albanese government for declining a request from the US for support in the Red Sea. The government will likely not be sending a warship to assist the United States in an operation against Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in the Red Sea. “This is quite an important moment in Australian history,” Mr Sheridan told Sky News Australia. “If our navy has reached such a pathetic state of incapability that it cannot deal with attacks by Houthi rebels using cheap drones, then we’re just kidding ourselves about having any impact on China or the Indo Pacific whatsoever. “This is a shocking moment, both in what it says about the Albanese government’s complete lack of seriousness in this matter, the shocking state of our navy and the inability of the government to produce any military capability at all.”
