Странная война и разгром Франции / The Strange War and the defeat of France

Странная война – термин, приписываемый периоду с 3 сентября 1939 года и по 10 мая 1940 года на Западноевропейском театре военных действий или Западном фронте. Это словосочетание подчеркивает характер ведения боевых действий в этот период, а точнее их практически полнейшее отсутствие, враждующие стороны не предпринимали вообще никаких активных мер. С одной стороны – были силы 48 дивизий объеденных армий Британии и Франции, а с другой 42 дивизии войск Третьего Рейха. Находясь за хорошо укрепленными оборонительными линиями Зигфрида и Мажино, враждующие стороны лишь изредка поливали огнем сторону противника. Этот период можно считать слабостью или просчетом сил Британии и Франции. Они имели в своем распоряжении больше солдат нежели армия Германии, но при этом не предпринимали абсолютно ничего. Это дало возможность армии Третьего Рейха провернуть кампании захвата Дании, Норвегии, разделить Польшу и подготовиться к решительному вторжению во Францию. ________________________________________________________________ Strange War is a term attributed to the period from September 3, 1939 to May 10, 1940 in the Western European Theater of Operations or the Western Front. This made it possible for the army of the Third Reich to launch campaigns to capture Denmark, Norway, divide Poland and prepare for a decisive invasion of France.
