The slack rope dancer: An 18th-century music box

*First chance to see* This box, made about 1785, is finally on display at the Museum. Its main feature is a tiny mechanical slack-rope dancer, who starts moving once the mechanism has been wound. This enchanting piece is part of the fabulous Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Collection, which includes over 200 gold boxes, most of them made in the 18th-century.
